Our staff first started discussing having a FREE Family BLOCK Party for our community way back in 2005. We held our first BLOCK Party in 2006 and have held one every other year since then, except for 2016 when we moved into our New Worship Center. It’s been 4 years since our last BLOCK Party and I wanted to take a moment to remind you why we hold such an event, what will happen at the BLOCK Party, and how you can help make it successful.
This year’s BLOCK Party will be held on Saturday, September 15th, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Cold Harbor Elementary School.
What makes our BLOCK Party special:
First, it’s a completely FREE event. We are inviting our neighbors to come out to Cold Harbor Elementary School and have an afternoon of fun for their family for free. No strings attached.
Second, it provides us with opportunities to meet and engage in conversations with the families that live in the closest proximity to our church.
Third, it moves us away from our church building and into the community. It’s very easy for us to become isolated at our church building with all the events and activities that take place here. We are taking the church to the community instead of having the community come to our church.
Finally, it brings our church together as we work to accomplish a huge event. The volunteer needs to pull off our BLOCK Party are enormous and yet everyone at Fairmount comes together with enthusiasm and excitement to make it happen.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT THIS YEAR’S BLOCK PARTY:
FOOD! Mike Banton will again be cooking his delicious barbeque and hot dogs for the kids along with side dishes and drinks. Plus, there will be ice cream and snow cones.
INFLATABLE GAMES! We’ll have 10 large inflatable games that will be appropriate for both children and teens.
PETTING ZOO! For the first time, we have arranged for a petting zoo to be set up at the BLOCK Party. This is sure to be a hit with young and old alike.
COMMUNITY SERVICES! Several of our local partners such as MCEF, Moments of Hope, and Habitat for Humanity will be present to provide information. Additionally, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand; Walgreens will be providing flu shots (bring your health insurance card); and our Mental Health Ministry team will providing information on upcoming offerings, including the Fresh Hope peer support group for those with a diagnosis and their caregivers currently meeting on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in the Activity Center.
